There some new slang being throw around the forum "imba". This old dog needs to learn a new trick. Whats it mean please?

I've noticed over the past decade that the next generation can't be bothered with spelling crap out.

example:

emo = emotional
imba = imbalanced.

The term made its way into GW primarily from WoW defectors.

Imbalanced is such a long word....

Blame text messaging. Typing stuff out with a cell phone/pager is the reason for most of the internet slang used today.

fyi, thats not the root of the word emo. the term emo comes from the musical genre, emotional hardcore of the early to mid 90's. the term broadened to include a slightly wider genre of music and the fans of this music. in case you wanted to be slightly more educated.

also, all of this info and your original question could have been answered by wikipedia.

Btw - emo is:
a) music, similar to death metal or goth, but much, much sadder and mainly about suicides, pain, hate and anguish
b) a person that listens to emo music and/or wears black leather (or similar grim clothing), has pierced nipples/ears/tongue/nose/any other part of body and is extra-super sad, cries all the time and/or is trying to make other people cry. Also they have stupid haircut to show they are so sad and depressed that even their hair is looking sad.
c) if something is emo it means it's either super-sad (like a dead clown hung on a tree in a graveyard - pretty grim, eh?) or it makes other people sad (like a GW account being banned ;d).

So emo =/= emotional. Some things aren't what they look like.

And just because we use short versions of words it doesn't mean we can't use those words. It's faster to write ,,BTW'' or ,,IMO'' than ,,By the way'' or ,,In my opinion''.

On the subject of GW slang, could someone tell me what '123456789' means? I've seen it on the Guru a lot, is it part of the 'naughty word' filter?

No, but the minimum limit for a post is 12 characters, so if you give a one-word reply you need to add to it to have at least 12 characters.
